A Christmassy Evening!

A belated happy international Lolita day to everyone, I hope you all had a lovely day! I did but ill save that for another post when I have my pictures sorted ^.^

But back to my Christmassy evening! By coincidence one of my friends and her housemates brought the same gingerbread house kit as id brought a while ago so we decided to make an evening of it, mulled wine, cheesey Christmas music and the beginnings of a gingerbread village! (And pizza.. not quite as Christmassy!)

So for our first picture before the destruction began! All of our supplies...

concentration while decorating my roof!

after the assembly and roof decoration!

the beautiful finished product:

all of our efforts! Steffs in the middle, mine on the right and on the left LouLous, whose house unfortunately fell apart!

the destructive aftermath!

Sometimes life feels like stepping in shit when you've got beautiful shoes on

So i've had a hard few weeks which is why its all been a little quiet on the blogging front! And today things really got to me, so i snuggled up and watched Kamikaze Girls to cheer myself up. (oh so predictable for a lolita right!)
Anyway, right in the beginning of the film, where Momoko steps in shit on the way to station, i thought to myself she still looks like a princess! So i got out of bed, got dressed and told myself that even when i feel rubbish, i can still do it feeling like a princess! So i did just that, and i felt much better. Its been one of those days where i truly remember why i love lolita.
And this was my outfit!

MCM Expo

I have recently started gaming so when a friend asked me to go to mcm expo in London i was only too pleased! Ive always loved anime and to now be involved in the gaming side of things is so much fun, this is my current xbox set up:
I saw some amazing cosplay and so many cute lolitas, but my favourite cosplay was Ryuk from Deathnote, this has been one of my definite favourite animes for a long time now!

Cute Headbow Tutorial !

This is my first tutorial! So bear with me, its extremely picture heavy and features my poor sewing skills -.-' But i hope you like the finished product! :
Photobucket

So here we go, you will need:
  • patterned fabric
  • lace
  • ribbon
  • stiff net/tulle
  • needle and thread
  • scissors
  • beads (optional)
  • IMG_0156.jpg picture by bexyvongrimm

Now lets get started!

Begin by cutting the piece of material you want for the main part of the bow into a rectangle. The size of this piece depends completely on how big you want your bow, and i did no measurements and just went completely with the print on my fabric! (isnt it cute?)
You will also need to cut a piece of your stiff net to around the same size, though dont worry if theres slight over hang or the cuts arent straight, i was using offcuts and it didnt affect my finished item at all! Lay the patterned material over the net like so:
Photobucket

Now all you need to do is stitch around the edge to join the net to the back of the fabric, the stitches dont have to be overly tidy as theyll be covered up by lace! After youve stitched and trimmed any net over hang, you should have something a little like this:

Our next step is to start edging the bow, so pin your lace along the edge (this will cover any shakey cutting!) and stitch along like so:
Photobucket

This is all lovely, however we still have a scrappy edge and that wont do for any lolita hairstyle.

So, fold this edge over and stitch along it, giving a far more polished finish to our bow!

Much better!

You should now have something a little like this:

Dont worry about the back not looking perfect, it wont be seen!

Now we need to make our rectangle a little more bow like. Ping the fabric together in the middle of the rectangle and add a stitch or two, giving you something like this:

Now we need to cover this with a little ribbon, i chose plain white as my fabric is so busy, but you could use patterned ribbon, or even lace to do this:

Now to make our beautiful bow wearable, slip another length of the ribbon through the loop youve just made like this:

(Alternatively you could add a pin and where your bow as a brooch, or you could slip an alice band through the loop and wear it as a hairband if you prefer.)

I added some beads as a final touch, however this is optional.

And there you have it! Your very own oversized headbow. I hope you enjoyed the tutorial! Id love to see any bows anyone creates.
